Developer, Flash/Flex

Nature Publishing Group – the prestigious international scientific publishing company – seeks an enthusiastic Flash/Media Developer to work in our New York office as an integral part of the team developing NPG’s growing portfolio of online products.

This position is responsible for the development of accessible multimedia content across the nature.com site, using whatever technology is most appropriate. It is envisaged the majority of work will be Flash, but you should be open to using other technologies (where an equal choice exists technologies using open standards should be preferred) ensuring that your work is abstracted, maintainable, and beautiful to look at – both in terms of the code and the result.

Primary tasks for this position include:

• Developing accessible multimedia content across the nature.com site
• Develop maintainable and reusable code
• Documentation of work to company wiki
• Ensure design standards are adhered to
• Be a proponent of best practices of multimedia development

Requirements:

• Experience with developing in flash for customer facing website applications
• Excellent knowledge and experience with ActionScript 3.0/ECMAScript
• Experience and interest in other scripting languages
• Understanding of graphic design with core Photoshop skills
• Knowledge of accessibility standards
• Experience of version controlled collaborative working environments is desirable
• Highly organized, creative, team oriented person
• Strong communicator who can use diplomacy across departmental lines

Education:

Bachelors degree in computer science or extensive training and experience in related fields
