Job Description

Moog is looking for a Sr. Materials and Process Engineer to join our Materials and Process Engineering (M and PE) team as an expert in the Materials/Metallurgy field. You will lead M and PE engineering and project management activities of the highest scope and complexity to improve Moog product materials, analytical approaches, and special processing to meet the needs for global customers. Reporting to an engineering manager, you work onsite daily in East Aurora, NY (Buffalo area).

As a Sr. Materials and Process Engineer, you will:

* Create, develop, and lead initiatives and activities to improve Moog product materials, analytical approaches, and special processing to meet the needs for global customers.

* Manage long term, multi-site, process development and implementation projects to support operating group growth.

* Recruit, motivate, train, and develop staff to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting M&PE objectives.

* Formulate, coordinate and gain acceptance for annual budgets or capital projects to secure the resources necessary to achieve agreed work programs.

* Champion MP&E strategic planning changes to optimize customer support and services.

* Guide the development of technical training programs for materials, processes, and analytical interpretation to assist the Operating Groups in meeting their objectives.

* Identify and develop emerging analytical and process technologies where implementation offers improvements.

Here are the minimum qualifications to be considered for this role:

* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Materials/Metallurgy is desirable) with 10+ years of experience in the Materials/Metallurgy field (such as: Welding/Heat Treat, Nondestructive Evaluation, Failure Analysis)

* OR Master's Degree in Engineering with 8+ years of experience in the Materials/Metallurgy field (such as: Welding/Heat Treat, Nondestructive Evaluation, Failure Analysis)

This position requires access to United States export-controlled information.

It'd be great if you also had:

* Familiarity with heat treating, metal finishing, joining, inspection and material properties for a wide variety of engineering materials such as high strength aluminum alloys, stainless steels, tool steels, beryllium copper, electrical alloys and ultra-high strength/temperature alloys.

* Extensive experience in performing and documenting material and process failure analyses.

* Ability to perform and direct various metallurgical analytical tasks such as metallography and SEM analysis.

* Working knowledge and operating experience with Vacuum Heat Treat Furnaces.

* Ability to create Heat Treat Recipes for these furnaces using a variety of material's, 4000 Carbon Alloy steels, PH hardening steels, and others.

* Knowledge in Carburizing, Nitriding, Through Hardening, and Normalizing and Tempering.

* Experience in Plating and NDT.

* Ability to review Engineering Drawings, and comment back on using standard processes.

* Pyrometry background

* Working knowledge in metrological testing, and with capability of analyzing grain boundaries.

Salary range:

The base pay range for this opportunity is $111,000 - $170,000 per year. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
