Position Overview

C&S is currently seeking a Controller / Director of Accounting to help lead a 19 person accounting group by directing all accounting functions and procedures. The main focus will be monthly financials and performance metrics for various Service Groups in C&S Engineers. The position is based in our Syracuse office but can also work from our Buffalo or Rochester offices with regular travel to Syracuse.

Position Responsibilities

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors.
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Managing the budget process.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.
  • Managing, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff.
  • Responsible for directing accounting functions, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Oversight of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, general ledger, bank and inter-company reconciliations, and special projects as needed.
  • Prepares and monitors monthly and yearly period closings, including financial statements for management.
  • Ensures accounting procedures abide by company, legal and GAAP procedures.
  • Utilize safe work practices in accordance with federal, state, local, and company standards.
  • Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department as soon as identified.

Skills/Education/Experience

  • Must have strong working knowledge of accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff with varied experience and job responsibilities.
  • Individual will need to rely on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Individual needs to be team player, detail oriented and ability to multi task with daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
  • Communication skills for dealing with internal and external customers required.
  • Experience in the architectural, engineering and construction environment, a plus.
  • Experience with BST (AE accounting software), a plus.
  • Qualified candidates should have a bachelor's degree in economics, business administration, accounting or finance and a minimum of 10 years related experience.

Estimated Compensation Range: $110,000 - 150,000/year*

*Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
