Position Summary:

Specialty/minor crops (e.g., fruits and vegetables, hops, hemp) are significant contributors to the NY agricultural economy. The state is a national leader in the production of processing vegetables, apples, grapes, and other commodities. Weeds are a significant threat to the successful production of these crops; some of the most pressing concerns include herbicide resistant biotypes, perennial species, and weeds that escape control measures due to unfavorable environmental conditions. Dr. Lynn Sosnoskie's research and extension program is focused on identifying new tools and practices that can improve crop competitiveness; this includes the evaluation of robotic cultivators, precision sprayers, and electrical weeders, describing the factors that alter crop-weed interactions, screening novel herbicide active ingredients for performance and safety.

Under the guidance and direction of Dr. Sosnoskie, the primary responsibilities of this position include performing a variety of field, greenhouse, laboratory, and data processing duties required to operate a highly efficient and effective specialty crops weed science research program.
