Job Description

Our employee-owned and multi-disciplined team of engineering and design professionals is looking for a Mechanical Inspector who has extensive technical knowledge of various mechanical systems associated with freight rail facilities, infrastructure, and site operations.

As a member of our Rail team, your primary responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Familarity with basic Microsoft products (word, excel, and PPT)
  • Familiarity with collaboration products such OneDrive, MSTeams, OneNote
  • PDF editing software such as Revu Bluebeam
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Understanding of Project Management principles
  • Prioritize & manage workload
  • Must be able to estimate repairs and understand budgeting requirements
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal direction
  • Compose, type, format, proofread, edit and organize documents, reports, specifications and correspondence
  • Create and maintain paper and electronic files
  • Assist with developing project guides, and provide information and support for project reviews
  • Apply company quality assurance guidelines and procedures for project document management
  • Coordinate meetings and assist with presentations
  • Exhibit professionalism with clients
  • Work closely with multiple Project Managers and project teams
  • Exercise good judgment and discretion, and independently resolve problems and issues
  • Provide broad project assistance for a highly skilled team of cross-sector professionals
  • Work in an interactive environment with business and technical staff to ensure a high degree of collaboration in support of a successful overall solution
  • Have in-depth technical knowledge of mechanical systems for turntables, movable bridges, drop tables, and ventilated tunnels
  • Have "hands-on" experience inspecting, designing and installation of mechanical systems for turntables, movable bridges, drop tables, and ventilated tunnels
  • Provide on-site construction management services for a variety of industries
  • Actively participate in industry associations related to mechanical design
  • Participate in business development
  • Work with leadership and project team to coordinates the quality control deliverables of project teams
  • Some travel will be required for team coordination, site visit and inspection work
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
  • Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses
  • Provide guidance to less-experienced field staff as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

**Note: For this opportunity, our preference is to find a qualified candidate who resides within 50 miles of Kansas City, Missouri or Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas. To be considered for this opportunity and to perform the assigned responsibilities, candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to complete and pass any background, security, and drug test requests required by TKDA, clients, and state and/or federal agencies.

Required Qualifications.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience performing similar responsibilities as outlined above
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

  • Relevant Industry Certifications
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
